New Year's Eve Bash!!!

Just a reminder to everyone out there reading me - we are having a New year's eve party at our house Monday night from about 8 until whenever everyone leaves...Last year was 330. Anyway, just bring your favorite appetizer dish or finger food and maybe even a game. Just to warn you, there will also be karoke for those of you who are tone deaf!!!! Our Anniversary

Today is our 17 year anniversary! On one hand it seems like the time has just flown by. Then on the other, it seems like an eternity. Seventeen years and two children later I am still grateful that I have a wonderful, loving and understanding husband who just happens to double as my best friend. Happy Anniversary Baby!

What it's all about

I CORINTHIANS 13 - A CHRISTMAS VERSION

If I decorate my house perfectly with plaid bows,
strands of twinkling lights and shiny balls, but do
not show love to my family, I'm just another
decorator. If I slave away in the kitchen, baking
dozens of Christmas cookies, preparing gourmet meals
and arranging a beautifully adorned table at mealtime,

but do not show love to my family, I'm just another
cook.

If I work at the soup kitchen, carol in the nursing
home and give all that I have to charity, but do not
show love to my family, it profits me nothing. If I
trim the spruce with shimmering angels and crocheted
snowflakes, attend a myriad of holiday parties and
sing in the choir's cantata but do not focus on
Christ, I have missed the point.

Love stops the cooking to hug the child. Love sets
aside the decorating to kiss the husband. Love is
kind, though harried and tired. Love doesn't envy
another's home that has coordinated Christmas china
and table linens. Love doesn't yell at the kids to get
out of the way, but is thankful they are there to be
in the way. Love doesn't give only to those who are
able to give in return but rejoices in giving to
those who can't.

Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all
things, endures all things. Love never fails. Video
games will break, pearl necklaces will be lost, golf
clubs will rust, but giving the gift of love will
endure.

Winter Ball

Tonight was the NVMC Winter Ball for the Youth. When I got to looking over the pictures tonight, I can't believe how big the kids are getting. Makes me feel so old. Seems like yesterday...blah blah blah - now I sound like an 80 year old lady! A picture is worth a thousand words!

Shop Christmas Party 07

Tonight was our annual Christmas Party for work. I have to say that I have the absolute best employees! They are hard working, respectful, a lot of fun, and THE BEST HAIRDRESSERS IN THE WHOLE WORLD! We all piled up at my house and had tons of food and a vicious round of Dirty Santa. Yet another year has gone by and all I wish for is more of the same...Thanks Shear Attitude for a great 2007 - Let's do it again!

A Moment

Have you ever just been going throughout your day , doing a whole lot of nothing, when all of a sudden it hits you. An overwhelming sense of warmth combined with a deep breath. Encapsulated in that very moment you realize how very blessed you are. You, your family, your children are all healthy. You have a home and a meal every time you are hungry and a lot of times, even when you're not. You have the freedom to express who you are wherever you are. You are loved by not only people around you but by God. You realize that you really don't need anything. Your life is full. Yea - there are days and there are ups and downs, but when you place that on a scale and the counter balance is everything else that is ok, how can you complain? Every now and then tears well up in my eyes as I realize how "easy" most of us have it. Our small complaints that just annoy us are nothing compared to what some people endure on a daily basis. After a couple of very long days at work, I though to myself tonight, "Wow, my feet are really hurting." Then without even thinking about it, I was reminded of the little girl who lost her feet this summer on a ride at Kentucky Kingdom. I bet she would love to work and stand until her feet hurt. My daughter knew the girl who was hit by a car last night in front of Moore. Sobering. Too close to home. Life is one big hard lesson sometimes. What have I learned? I have learned that I want for nothing. Even on hard days when the kids are driving me crazy and Jim is on my last nerve, I have a family. When I am tired and don't even want to move, that I have a body that takes me where I need to go. When my clients are driving me crazy and instead of cutting their hair I want to cut their head off, I have a good job. When I walk around my house and it's cluttered and not as clean as I would like, I have a home. When I'm irritated that there's nothing in the house to eat and I have to go to the grocery, I have the money to go. When I can't believe that I'm out of gas again, that I have a truck that takes me. When I don't always want to go to church or pray, that I live in a country that allows me to worship in public and not in hiding. Take the time today to think about what you're grateful for. Have a moment.

spray foamy stuff

ok - so while I type there is a short stubby little man dressed in disposable clothing and a respirator crawling through my "basement". We are having spray foam insulation hosed throughout our dungeon to hopefully cut down on our astronomical lg&e bills. Living in a 107 year old farm house definitely has its ups and downs I guess. Jim thought this would be a great idea since you can feel cold air coming through our floors. The part that everyone failed to mention to me is that the whole house is filled with a foul smelling chemical and a fog. (and no I don't mean the favor of God) I have to admit that I may be feeling a tad bit high and confused. I went downstairs to watch for a few minutes before I realized that he is probably wearing a respirator for a reason. yea - I probably knocked a few years off my life but it was pretty cool. This stuff sprays on like a reddish colored liquid and within a few seconds expands about 1000 times it's size into a yellow puff - covering everything in sight. Maybe it's the fumes but I can't help but be reminded how God does that in our life. If you invite Him into your "home", His Word, His love, grace, mercy and acceptance goes on lightly. (He is such a gentlemen) And then after you have surrendered to Him, He puffs up and encompasses every area of your life. He can get down into the cracks of pain and hurt that no one else can see. He insulates us with His glory. He protects us from the elements and things we can't even see. If you let Him have His way, He will take complete control over the dark, damp, and scary places in your life. Just a thought...if this guy is here much longer, I may have to go to rehab!!!!

Ever wonder why?

Have you ever wondered why during the most beautiful and wonderful season of the year that people act and drive like complete idiots? I mean I must have missed the memo that apparently went out to everyone else today....Official drive like a moron day. I have been cut off, swerved at, pulled out in front of, and had 2 parking spots "stolen" from me at Wal-Mart. Here's a clue - when your blinker is on and you are sitting there waiting, the spot is supposed to be yours. If anyone else has a new set of rules that I have missed, please by all means, let me know. I know that I suffer a tad bit from road rage but this time of year just proves to be too much! I am also aware that God may be working patience in me but I wish He would hurry up already!!!!! Mr. Husband came home from hunting today. He's been gone five whole days. He shot absolutely nothing so I assume he just had a big Man's slumber party in the woods. I swear when he goes next time I'm making up a gift basket full of goodies and face masks so they can do facials! Oh well, at least I got to hold the remote control for five whole days!

Ok - I am totally new at this and quite frankly just surprised that my computer illiterate self was able to set this thing up. I'll hit enter and probably fry my whole computer! Anyway - I've been a silent reader to almost all of NVMC bloggers and I really enjoy reading how everyone else's day goes. I usually journal and I guess this is a lot the same except if you are pretty decent at it, other people might read it. I guess I'll learn as I go. I look forward to all your comments!
